Our History & Future

PCPR services the Philadelphia metropolitan area, and our network consists of practitioners in K-12 and higher education, private and non-private institutions, and community-based organizations.

Our Focus

Over the years, the focus of PCPR has expanded beyond information sharing to include a broader range of activities for supporting practitioners; however, the focus on the success of any student achieving a college education has remained a constant objective of the work. Today, PCPR’s focus is primarily on three strands of work:

  • Developing and strengthening a community of practitioners in the Philadelphia region through networking and professional development opportunities.
  • Contributing our expertise to school district and city level conversations which impact on enhancing college access and success strategies and practices.
  • Advocating for stronger college access and success guidance for students in the Philadelphia region.

Our History

Philadelphia College Prep Roundtable emerged from a group of committed college access and success practitioners who started networking in 1992 with the intent of sharing information that could maximize their own knowledge and better support students’ college aspirations. Today, the Network is still driven by a community of practitioners and it’s network which includes participants from organizations throughout the region.

During monthly meetings on campuses throughout the region, the attendees address common concerns including academic preparedness, college entrance criteria, parental involvement and other strategies to enhance the effectiveness of college planning support in the School District of Philadelphia and neighboring districts.

PCPR updates the network on the impact of state, federal, and local policies affecting college access and success. Having begun with 5-7 individuals in the early 1990’s, PCPR has supported over 750 professionals as part of its network and over 2,000 individuals from a wide range of businesses, individuals, K-12 agencies, and non-profits during the last two decades.

Our Future

To effectively execute our ideals and strategies, Philadelphia College Prep Roundtable convenes practitioners across the city through monthly meetings, online updates, and unique professional development opportunities. Additionally, PCPR regularly convene regional conferences, reflecting industry trends, notable speakers, shared best practices and effective strategies. PCPR embodies a set of core values, and priorities critical to supporting the development of a strong college-going culture.

While upholding strong ethical standards in support of professional responsibility and accountability for students seeking post-secondary options, PCPR is the premier network of professionals that continue to improve the lives of individuals to thrive and adapt to a complex and global society.
